Stairway to blogdom

Wow, it’s getting harder and harder for me to keep coming at you with blog entries. Sorry for the lull - the past 3 weeks have been quite busy. I am teaching 2 sections of a class that started on September 1: an on campus version with 95 students and an online version with 100 students. The course is a conceptual approach to statistical reasoning, heavy on explanation and interpretation, light on formulae. The first few weeks are always crazy with folks dropping in and out, mostly in up to the end of the add-drop period: 2 weeks into an only 8 week quarter. But this years students are a lively and responsive bunch for the most part who allow me to engage them in discussion and jokes and who ask intelligent questions.

So Micah turned 3 .. This I can't believe it!. His birthday was September 6, but we had a small party on the following Saturday. We kept it small only because we've been to a few other birthday parties for 3 years old, all much larger, and the end result has been the birthday boy/girl in a constant state of meting down - too much stimulation. So we had a few of Micah's closest playmates over: Amina, Clara, Jacob and Justin. While Roni went all out and planned a great day of art activities and such, the kids mostly wanted to run around the house, make hella noise, and jump on Micah's bed. Just the way a 3 year old's birthday should be!

On Sunday the 11th, we hooked up with Laura, Haywood and Eva to again ride the trains at Leakin Park. This time Emmet came along and hid to ride on the floor of the mini-train car, resting between my legs. I think he enjoyed it, and I know Micah did!

This weekend was a lot of fun too! Friday night we hung out with some of Micah's classmates and their parents at the park right down the street from us. Afterwards, we rolled to Canton for a brief but fun visit to Roger and Lisa's awesome crib. Amina and Caleb and parents were in the house, as well as Brian and Kerri, Roger's brother and a very cool friend from DC. We had to cut things short though because bedtime for the boyz was nigh and meltdowns inevitable, as the loud ride home proved.

Saturday, we went to Amina's birthday party - I will post photos soon. Micah, Amina , Charlie, and Luca had a ball splashing in the kiddie pool, chasing and popping bubbles and chillin' in the hammock. Another smashing bday party success!

After naps we rolled to the Hampden Fest: saw from school friends, and rocked out to a sort of alt-countryish band. Micah was spellbound watching the guitarists and drummer play: he didn’t want to leave. Roni, on the other hand kept complaining about the volume level - but you know what Kiss had to say about this - if it’s too loud you are too old!! Sorry Roni..

greetings again!

Sorry for the delay in blogging - it's been a busy 2 weeks.
I had my week of bachelprhood - Roni and the boyz were up in Queens and I was back in Bmore. I managed to repaint the entire dining room a beautiful off white to replace the salmon/dark salmon experiment. Word to the wise - never introduce fishtones in the darkest room in the house.
Any how I have lots of exciting stuff to tell - and will post soon. With the start of school and reeling in the travesty in the Gulf Coast I've been a bit distracted. I have really fond memories of New Orleaans - an exciting, mysterious, even spooky engigma of a city. Lots of booze, great music, awesome food, and an interesting overall discourse in affluent/squalor living side by side: in this dimension its really like Baltimore.
