What up?

Okay, so I am behind in blogging - just trying to create hype and desire for new posts.

Let's see -
first some good news. Lily, my niece has finally come home from the hospital. She is hooked up to a feeding tube and an apnea monitor, but is otherwise doing AOK. We went to Wilmington to visit her this past Saturday and I got to hold her! She is truly a cutie and other than the machinery looks, feels and acts like an infacnt - and boy can she cry loudly always a good sign!

Micah and Emmet, while excited to see and meet their first first cousin also delighted in hanging out with my inlaws and playing chase and frisbee in Debra and Aaron's back yard.

We have finally finished weaning Emmet of nursing, but it has not been without pain - his sleep patterns continue to be brutal taking a toll on the sleep of his brother, mother and daddy. Otherwise he is a happy go lucky 2 year old who is talking up a storm - in complete sentences and slang no less. "Daddy those are your shoes, not Mommy's shoes". "Daddy this squeeze yogurt is off the hook, its off the heezy". He is also eating very well and his fave foods include the aforementioned squeeze yogurt (basically yogurt in a tube, more packaging and expense but whatever it takes knowhati'msayin) , hamburgers, chicken nuggets (the organic, expensive Belle and Evans type), fruit (apples, pineapple and cantelope especially), turkey sausage and homemade"muffin mans".

Micah is also doing great, starting to read, really digging books, music (he even likes the Pogues), playing instruments and writing song lyrics, drawing, continually making animal costumes, and just being a lot of fun.

My thesis is moving along, and while I can't say I LOVE doing it, I certainly am enjoying it more than expected. I've been working out and eating better and have lost 13-15 lbs - hoping to shed a total of 20-25 by summer, so I can look hot in my biking shorts.

Aight, more to come..

Ilness strikes

our otherwise healthy household. What seems to be the 24 hour stomach bug (let's hope as I suffered it today, hopefully 24 hours is the upper bound) hit Emmet on Saturday, Roni on Sunday and me, today, Monday -

I've eaten about 15 saltines in total this evening and feel like they'll stay. I slept a ton today (after getting up at 5 per usual, slept form 6:30 - 10:30, and again from 1:30-4:30) an am still planning on turning in for the night shortly (it is now 8 pm). I hope I'm done with it tomorrow and that Micah successfully opts out of catching it.

I am to deliver a final rough edit of the first section of my thesis this week and really need to kick ass during my waking well hours.

Mea Culpa

Way too long since I've blog-blog-blogged.
We've had some serious internet connectivity issues over the past 2 weeks- it took me a whole day just to downlaod an entire album last week. So I was afraid my brilliant musings would get interrupted by another service time out, and hence I shyed away.

But I'm back in full effect. In short, things are good. The sabbatical is happening, and a bit lonely - but work is getting done. Analyses are being performed, tables and graphs being made and page after page of text to be read only by a brave few is being turned out.

Micah is starting to read words!! We've been working on sounding out words for a while with some success, but now he is taking matters into his own hands. Leave it to the genius miscreants of Hampden to be the catalyst. While walking to the Waverly farmer's market on Saturday, we passed some high brow graffiti on the Remington avenue bridge - along with a pretty crude illustration of a short penis (ironic for such a ballsy pic, huh?), labelled with the word "penis" is of course another 3rd grade insult, "fag" - Micah sees this and proudly states "Mommy, that says fag!" - ugh - at least it opened the door for a discussion of tolerance, buts its very hard to explain to a 4 year old why "fag" is an offensive term etc... I'm sure we'll hit other talking points as we explore more of Hampden in the spring.

I've been on a serious Lungfish kick. Lungfish is a long running band from Bmore fronted by the unimitable Daniel Higgs. Minimalist hypnotic rock with spirited ranting by the aforemention Mr. Higgs- the stuff rules. Lungfish has long been tagged with the "emo" tag, along with a myriad of other bands, many of which have little in common (Fugazi and Fall Out Boy both given the same subgenre designation - come on!?!?). Emo is a term greeted with disdain by some, titilation by others, and now apparently fear by folks in North Dakota.

More to come sooner than later.
