Weekend in Review/Get your rock on!

So we went to Grammy Ruth McGready's funeral on Wednesday - a bittersweet day- I love Grammy so much but it was her time - and I am SO thankful she was able to live in her own house until 2 weeks before her death.

So we went to Belvedere Square for the second Friday in a row and jammed to the sounds of the Junkyard Saints, zydeco saviours from the land of pleasant living - Emmet and Micah had a ball, and we got home about 9 pm. Not content to end the Friday there, for the first time in months I went out - to the Ottobar - ostensibly to catch my buddy Blake Harrisons' s grind/thrash/punk band Triac - but of course I messed up the schedule, so I missed them. I sat through two loud bands, Swarm of the Lotus and Coliseum - neither really did it for me. I'm glad I stayed though - this awesome, fun old skool thrash band from Richmond, Municipal Waste was really fun - and the crowd was way into them. They were really talented AND funny - from the "wizard" that introduced, to the boogie board they busted out for crowd surfing - I left with a big smile on my face.

On Saturday we went to the Waverly farmer's market and stocked up on basil, parsley, and cilantro. Post trip we put Micah down for an early nap so we could avail ourdelves to Rock-n-Romp. We were late but caught the Jennifers, a long running Bmore band - first time seeing them for me. Awesome power-pop stuff, I gotta get their CD.

Sunday was hot hot hot - went to the playground, took some naps, then headed to Trader Joes.

Sunday night went back to the Ottobar to see Comets on Fire - go see this band!!! Non-pretentious, over the top psychedelic rock with a crazy energetic live show - well worth staying out until midnight. Before they went on, I had to sit through a band called Growing, aka ZZZZing though... why do hipsters think that a lot of amps coupled with one note for 45 minutes is all that?
I should have though of that before they did..
